Counselling can be extremely useful in helping you with problems such as anger management, relationship issues, abuse, bereavement, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, low self-esteem, child related issues, stress, bullying, work-related issues and personal development. Every individual is different and therefore some problems can be helped in a few sessions - others over a period of months.
Sometimes it’s hard to talk to family or friends as they are emotionally involved. You may not want to burden them, or you feel you are not being understood. Counselling is different because the therapist is a trained professional who will listen to you respectfully, non-judgementally and in confidence. Counsellors do not give advice, but empower the individual to search for their own solutions, with the aid of anothers perspective.
The first appointment is an assessment where we explore the issues, or problems that you are experiencing and discuss what you would like to achieve out of your counselling and how I can help you. At the end of the assessment, and if you agree to work with me, we will then discuss future appointments.which will be 50 minutes in duration.
I have a special interest in exploring an individuals past relationships aswell as the ‘here and now’. It has helped clients identify, and recognise, how much of their early years have shaped who they are today and enabled them to focus on who they want to be now.
I offer coaching on a one to one basis. Life coaching is a future focused practice with the aim of helping you determine and achieve personal goals with the aid of me as your mentor. It can help with problems such as time management, career changes and achieving a better work/life balance. Coaching focuses on effecting change in a clients current and future behaviours.
Life coaching aims to help you achieve clarity and confidence to work through issues that are holding you back from enjoying a challenging and harmonious life. Coaching is different to therapy in that therapy focuses on the past to make the present less debilitating. Coaching focuses on the future and how you can achieve your own personal goals.
I can offer clients a safe, yet challenging environment, in which they can explore their feelings and work out what the blocks are to moving forwards. I enable this by offering objective, non-judgmental input. I see my role as coach to:
Try to really understand you and the issues you are struggling with.
Help you regain, and maintain, self confidence, self acceptance and self belief.
Encourage you to acknowledge your core strengths.
Examine your goals, interests and choices.
Explore real, and perceived, stumbling blocks to progress.
Help you achieve a sense of purpose.
Help you live a fulfilled and authentic life.
