What happens in therapy?
Therapy is mainly about two people meeting together in order to explore the issues and dilemmas of one of the people – the client. The client talks about their worries, concerns, fears, hopes and dreams and the therapist tries to understand and help the client to explore these further – to gain more insight. This can help the client feel better and also to gain a sense of agency – an idea of what choices they want to make and what they want to do next.
My training is in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy – so as well as exploring your world and your dilemmas by talking with each other, there is the opportunity to explore this world using imagery – which can be very powerful, creative and surprising. I will invite you to talk about what you want from therapy and we will work together in a variety of ways to try and achieve your aims.
Family Coaching - Helen Cruthers
What is Family Coaching?
It's a tough job being a parent - it can be hard to know how best to respond in difficult situations, and it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. I offer support and guidance for parents, and other family members, to improve the quality of family life. Whether you need some practical strategies, a supportive listening ear, or both – family coaching can be a great way to enhance your skills and confidence as a parent. The approach is very flexible, based on your needs - we can meet in your home or elsewhere, and we can work together on the phone. Don't hesitate to contact me to discuss how I can best help you.
Common family difficulties that we can tackle together include:
challenging behaviour
school issues and bullying
couple conflict
self-esteem and shyness
extended family problems
sibling rivalry
stress of a new baby
single parenting
step-families and adopted children
anger issues (adult or child)
living with teens
sleep!
