After a series of emotional crises where i felt out of control, i had a mental/ emotional breakdown - my body now refuses to go to sleep, i have experienced just before it goes into unconciousness that there is a release of fear that throws the body awake again, i use sleeping tablets to sleep a few hours , but it is only perfiferal sleep, there is no dreaming, no deep sleep. And i wake up in the grip of the fear, it feels like my mind is caught in a fright or flight response, on hyper vigillance and all the faculties follow it, its like living in a terrifyied state, worse thing is i have no control over it. It feels like my mind is locked into the emotional trauma, my nervous system locks down my body and wont release. Is this Somniphobia ? i am waiting for a psychiatric assessment but this could take ages and i am getting worse not better. I am a nervous wreck, can anyone help ? Many thanks - Andrew -

Hi Andrew, I can more then understand the wait for a psychiatric assessment! Good on you though for taking the first step to get help. I am not a psychiatrist and therefore not qualified to diagnose but it does sound like Somniphobia. Fortunately it is treatable (whether or not that is the problem). EFT is the therapy I would recommend most however I would also be happy to look at this with you in a different therapy if this feels more comfortable for you. I realize you say there were a series of emotional crises that led up to this are you comfortable telling me more about them? In private if not in public on this forum. Can you see any link between them and your trouble sleeping? Try a free session with me and we can look at how I can help and look deeper at how this problem originated. Hayley

Hi hayley, thanks, i can see the link , as these were deep bonds, and emotionally i felt i was not in control of my emotions in relation to these people, they were in control of me, so it was very frightening, so my body wont let me sleep for fear of being out of control, its holding on for dear life, but my life is getting worse and worse by its response, i'm very worried now. I looked at EFT and will try and find someone near to me, my trouble is, its getting to the point where i feel too scared to do much. I am getting counsilling this friday. My mind and body are so knotted up i dont know what to do anymore. Im exhausted. Im happy to have a free session with you, money is an issue right now though i have to be honest as i am on benefits.

No problem. Try the points I've sent over to you now If money is an issue and you would like to continue this with me I do have a discount for people on benefits. Give it a go, if it makes no difference then to be honest its probably not worth continuing with. If it does and you wanted to keep trying then I can adjust my rates.

Hi Andrew, Fright is connected to your body’s production of adrenalin, at first thoughts it sounds to me that you are producing adrenalin by the bucket full. Our bodies need some adrenalin but when we lose control of it it can be very disturbing. There are techniques that can be taught by cognitive therapists and coaches which can help you to control your thinking and regain control of your adrenalin production. Hypnotherapy and relaxation techniques together with breathing exercises can also have amazing results. There are lots of ways that you can retrain your body and mind to recover the peace and safety that we all deserve to feel. I believe you are doing the right thing by seeing a counselor and I trust you will get the help you deserve. Sleep deprivation is harmful issue that those of us who sleep well often underestimate. If you are short of cash I would willingly send you a free deep relaxation mp3 download or cd to try along side the therapy you will be receiving. Best Wishes Nigel

Nigel Thank you for taking the time to write - i did feel Adrenalin may be an issue, trouble is when you feel out of control its so difficult to know exactly what is wrong and of course the sleep deprivation does not help either. Money is a big problem for me right now so i would really appreciate it if you would send me the MP3 download, thats very kind of you - i am seeing a counselor and waiting for the NHS to give me a proper assesment. My email is pommyboy@hotmail.com So if the body feels scared then it produces adrenalin as a result. Kind regards Andrew

Hi Andrew Adrenalin is the body's way of preparing you to deal with threat so if your mind creates threat often the body produces adrenalin. In the days when we lived in caves it was what helped us run faster and be stronger. Today our bodies often turn it against us, instead of using it to protect us. I personally believe that we can act as our own pharmacist by the intentions we create in our mind be the conscious or unconscious. I will send you a free mp3 with instructions of how to use it. The perception of threat and feeling out of control are also the signs that pressure that we all feel at times can now be described as stress. Again deep breathing and relaxation techniques have beeen proved to be successful in dealing with stress. Best wishes Nigel
