Hi - can you help me here? My mood changes drastically within short periods. I have never had any "real" friends, I tend to change my opinions around to please others, I'm turning 22 next month and I still have my teddy bear, I'm interested in things for a short period of time and then I'm no longer interested. I collect dolls and comic books. I can ramble on about obscure facts about television shows or movies, and I often imagine the characters in different storylines. I have a job and I go to college; but I schedule everything so that I have the most me-time, usually equal to the amount of work/school. I correct people’s grammar when speaking with them, but when I type I seem to lose mine. And finally, I talk to myself but ONLY when I am sure that there is no one to hear me. I still let my mind wander at work (it doesn’t effect it) but not when I drive or am at school.

Hi G33kz,

it's a bit hard to tell whether or not there's something underlying what you have said here from just this information but what is normal varies widely between different people and from the information you've given here I would say that this is normal behaviour and nothing to be concerned about.

However, for you to ask this question in the first place it's obviously something that you are worried about so have you spoken to your doctor about this? If so what did they say?

Hayley

Hello, and thank you for your question.

In my view, I believe that by holding on to your collectables gives you comfort and keeps you feeling safe. Talking to yourself as a child is normal, especially when your toys are your friends. Talking to yourself in adulthood is perfectly normal too as there are times when you need to prod yourself into action.

The trivia which you feel that you ramble on about, is still your way of communicating and keeping you in touch with the world. Maybe sometime in your childhood you were criticised at a special time eg: a birthday, and you have taken this on board as a way you should behave .... seen and not heard. Holding down your work and college is a good way of encouraging personal growth; however you could benefit from exploring the Hurt Inner Child. to release the immature thoughts which could easily dominate your present inter-personal skills. I will be more than happy to assist you if you feel that this is a good option for you.

I am wondering what you do to relax yourself? Have you had any relaxation training? It may be helpful to explore your history to see if there are any threads that could be followed to help to understand the issues you are experiencing and heal anything that is outstanding for you from past experiences that may be driving this behaviour. Hope this helps Thanks for your enquiry Joyce Dallimore

Many people still have some of their childhood memorabilia - together with other personal treasures from holidays, previous jobs, loved ones, etc. including "grown-up toys" such as crockery, vases, a special scarf ... And many people go through what you're going through, at different stages of their lives ... I'm just being the devil's advocate there. It takes all sorts to make a rich world, doesn't it, and I'm glad we're all different.
Noticing all these things about yourself sounds to me as if you're ready for some positive changes. Obviously a few things are bothering you Now about yourself, your place in your world and how others "see" you, also it's important that you feel comfortable with yourself in company as well as on your own. We have only one chance at each moment in our lives - may as well make them as good as we can possibly make them, don't you think?! There are many ways to do this and you've come to the right place!
Feel free to make an appointment or have a free 15mins.consultation.
