About David Roberts
Looking for help with a problem?
With so many different therapeutic approaches on offer, deciding which one is right for your particular problem can be challenging. Nevertheless, by investigating your issues together during the initial consultation, a therapeutic program can be created specifically designed towards achieving your desired outcome.
I too have suffered from deep emotional pain, loss, confusion, bullying and even the desperation of trying to quit smoking. Therefore I aim to always be sensitive and create a nurturing environment whereby you will never be made to feel judged or cross-examined. I love what I do and hope my enthusiasm and dedication becomes apparent if you choose to work alongside me. Furthermore, because of my professional training, life experiences thus far and from client feedback I recognise we all have the power to change and become happier, more complete versions of ourselves - 'it just takes that first step!'
Are you struggling to quit a destructive habit such as smoking or binge drinking?
Are you suffering needlessly from a debilitating phobia such as flying?
Perhaps an embarrassing physical condition such as IBS or blushing is causing you distress.
If so, then allow me to offer you a painless and enjoyable solution to your problem. I have helped many sufferers with various conditions over the years so call today and make a difference to your life.
Hypnotherapy can be phenomenally successful where other forms of therapeutic intervention fail. The reason is because it directly accesses that part of your mind that’s causing the problem, the deeper seated and more instinctive part, your unconscious. By utilising specific therapeutic techniques, I aim to find the cause of your issue's or problem and 'reprogram' unwanted behaviour to create a new, more positive solution.
What happens in a session?
Once you are seated comfortably, I begin to gently relax you both physically and mentally by utilising my voice, skill and your imagination. However, you will remain alert enough to be aware. Also awake will be those parts of your mind that I need to work on to induce beneficial changes. After the session you may say to me that 'I heard every word you said,' or 'I did not feel hypnotised.' Do not worry as this is perfectly normal and in fact you only have to reach a light trance state in order for us to work on achieving your goals.
How does it work?
As mentioned above, the main requirement to enter into a hypnotic trance is relaxation. This gradual process happens by you letting yourself go whilst concentrating on my voice. Eventually when both your body and the conscious part of your mind have been sufficiently relaxed the normal barriers to the subconscious part of the mind slacken. This allows the subconscious to become receptive to positive suggestions. These new powerful ideas then re-programme your mind to bring about your desired goals.
'Hypnosis is a completely natural state that along with the input of a properly trained confident therapist can creative positive changes in a person's mental, emotional and physical state. It cannot make you do anything that you do not want to do or that you morally object to. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis and can leave the state whenever you wish to.' Chrysalis, 2007
'How many people are trapped in their everyday habits: part numb, part frightened, part indifferent? To have a better life we must keep choosing how we're living.' Albert Einstein
Is life getting you down?
Do you find yourself having more bad days than good?
Are you struggling to get out of bed in the morning as you contemplate what the point of it all is?
Perhaps you are feeling confused or emotionally numb, unable to pinpoint the cause of your psychological distress?
If so, then counselling could be the ideal therapeutic intervention for you to begin unravelling the causes behind your current dilemma.
Psychotherapy and counselling come under the umbrella of talking therapies. Being able to talk about whatever is on your mind whilst someone is giving you their full attention and really listening is very healing. Often it is this desire to be listened to in a non-judgmental way that takes a person to one of these therapies.
What happens in a session?
In the counselling sessions you will be able to explore various aspects of your life and feelings whilst talking about them openly and freely in a way that is rarely possible with your family and friends. Bottled up ‘emotional energy’ such as anxiety, anger, grief and humiliation can become very intense. Counselling offers an opportunity to explore them with the possibility of making them easier to understand.
How does it work?
As the therapeutic relationship develops, so too does the respect and trust between the counsellor and you. In turn this enables you to look at many aspects of your life, relationships and inner self which you may not have considered or been able to face before. The counsellor helps you to examine in detail the behaviour or situations which are proving difficult and to discover an area where it would be possible to initiate some change as a start. The counsellor may also help you to look at the choices open to you and thus support you in deciding your best options.
