Stress

Stress is present in many aspects of modern life, but some people have a better time managing and dealing with it. While some can enter a stressful situation and come out the other side stronger than ever before, others may have difficulties relieving stress in healthy ways. This can result in many negative symptoms appearing in a person's life. If the signs of stress appear often, it may be a sign that a little help and guidance is needed. Stress management can be taught. Both cognitive and behavioral therapy can help with the symptoms of various types of stress that appear for many people. Stress affects people of all ages from every walk of life. While it is possible that mental disorders may cause stress, there are other sources of stress in the modern world as well. 

Types of Stress

  • Work Stress - Caused by issues in the workplace, this type of stress has many symptoms in common with other forms of stress, but there are some distinct ones as well that revolve around a person's career.   
  • Family Stress - While all families are a bit difficult to handle sometimes, when family issues cause too much stress in a person's life, it can have serious consequences. 
  • Chronic Stress - If a person has long periods of uninterrupted stress, it can have serious effects on their body. Too much stress may even end with a heart attack. 
  • Unspecified Stress - When the exact causes of stress are not known but the symptoms appear, this is the term used. 

Symptoms of Stress

There are many physical and emotional indicators that will appear if a person is struggling with stress. Some of the physical symptoms include trouble sleeping, tense muscles, headaches, stomach problems, and overall fatigue. On the emotional side, people with too much stress are usually full of anxiety and may have frequent mood changes and other emotional problems. If the problems caused by stress aren't taken seriously, there is a real danger that stress could lead to other mental problems, including major depression. This is why we recommend therapy as a way to learn to adequately deal with stress before it gets out of hand.
