Definition of a Psychologist

There are several types of psychologists, but most of them aim to treat people in crisis.

Psychologist and Education

A clinical psychologist typically works in a rehabilitation facility with people in crisis. The focus of the intervention can be treatment in relation to depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, low self-esteem, grief, and life crises, etc. The therapeutic space can also be used for personal development, where the client not is in a crisis. Many clinical psychologists also offer coaching.

Business psychologists work with organizational development, leadership, coaching, employee satisfaction etc.
Neuropsychologists specialize in diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders associated with conditions affecting the brain.

Educational psychologists examine children/ young people and offers advice for parents, teachers, therapists, and treatment. – For example play therapy for children.

Psychologist is a protected title, which usually requires doctoral degree. This degree necessitates about 5 years of full-time graduate study, including practical work. School psychologists have a specialist degree, which generally consist of three years of full-time study. Some psychologists complete a master’s degree, which is useable for working with individual plans for a career. The master’s programs are two years long. It is required that psychologists obtain a license in order to practice.
