Family therapistWhat is family therapy?

Family life can sometimes be challenging and may cause conflicts between family member. It is very common that disagreements or conflicts arise when big changes occur in the family and cause turmoil. For some, it may be difficult to handle appropriately or can be unmanageable, which makes family counselling a helpful solution to get you and your family back on track.

Typical situations that may cause family issues:

  • The family before, during, and after divorce
  • Yours, mine and our children – blended/brought together families
  • Conflicts between generations or siblings
  • Doubt and disagreement - eg. In relation to upbringing, conflicts, and "what is best for the children"
  • Restoration of families after separation

How does family therapy work?

A family therapist works together with the family in examining and processing the internal problems in the family and its relation to the surroundings. The focus is on hearing every single family member, and helping them to be heard and understood. It can be very different how the process with a family therapist will progress, as it depends on your situation, what challenges you are struggling with and and how your relationships are to each other. In cases of divorce where children are involved, the family therapist will place particular focus on the children and whether they are being heard.
