Mindfulness

MindfulnessWhat is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is about conscious awareness and presence – being present here and now and not having your thoughts elsewhere. Practicing mindfulness can make it easier for you to manage your time and focusing on what you think is important. It is especially suitable for people with stress, depression and anxiety. The method is being used everyday in business both by privates and in the health sector. Therefore it can be relevant to everyone regardless of background and life situation.

Mindfulness is about being aware of what is in the moment without judging or evaluating. It is a good method to reduce or eliminate:

  • Stress
  • Sleeping problems or sleep disorders
  • Bustle
  • Distress in the body
  • Nervousness
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Difficulty with concentrating

How do you practice mindfulness?

Mindfulness typically implies methods like meditation where you are training your mind with a focus on your thoughts, feelings and body sensations. The purpose is to learn how to control your mind and your thoughts to stop them from controlling your ability to be present and aware. By doing this, you train yourself in getting better to be present in the moment and not letting your automatically driven thought patterns, jugdments and assessments control you.

With mindfulness you will achieve:

  • Peace and balance in the mind
  • Better jugdment skills
  • Control over your own thoughts, feelings and actions
  • More accepting in your existence and your relation to the outside world

You can practice mindfulness yourself through meditation and exercises of attention and presence. There are many opportunities to get started. It's only difficult to keep it up - especially when you're stressed and need it the most. There are mainly two different methods to practice mindfulness - MBSR and MBCT:

  • MBSR (Mindfulness based stress reduction) is a specific method to reduce or eliminate stress by using mindfulness techniques. This method aimes to people who is struggling with stress and focuses on how to be prepared better the next time stress symptoms may arise
  • MBCT (Mindfulness based cognitive therapy) is a method to reduce or eliminate mental and/or physical disorders by using mindfulness techniques. This method is especially useful for people with stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain
